Clemson football fans need to be on the lookout for potential CFB Playoff changes

The Clemson football team will be one of the major competitors for a spot in the CFB Playoff as we move forward with the 2020 season.

Though the committee has been quiet as of this point and still expects to play its games on time and as scheduled, there have been many signs to point to things being changed when it comes to the timeline and much more of the CFB Playoff.

The SEC has suffered several outbreaks that will leave the conference with more games canceled/postponed this week than will actually be played. The Big Ten has also seen outbreaks and the Ohio State-Maryland game was just recently canceled.

While SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said the conference’s goal is still play the title game on Dec. 19 as scheduled, there may be room for the playoff committee to make a few changes that could help the conferences get games in and reschedule those that may be canceled otherwise.

Though Clemson football hasn’t had a cancellation yet, Tiger fans should still want a contingency plan from the CFB Playoff committee

The playoff committee needs to make some guidelines based off this season before we get too much further along, at least in my opinion.

Why would it be fair, for example, for Ohio State at 5-0 to get in over a one-loss Notre Dame team that played a total of 10 games and beat Clemson football earlier in the season? It wouldn’t be.

The NFL has been working on a contingency plan for its postseason for several weeks now- including a potential option to expand the playoff if the regular season can’t be completed- and that may be something that the committee needs to look into. It may be difficult to expand the playoff with so many moving pieces, but all chips should be on the table here as we move forward. That could include a ‘bubble- in some respect’ and many other ideas that will certainly be discussed.

4 things we need to see during second bye week. dark. Next

We’ve already had the opportunity to see eight Clemson football games this season and that’s a blessing, but it would be nice to see everyone come together for a better plan of how we can play the postseason safely and successfully.
