Clemson Football: Two AP voters have Tigers outside their top-5
Clemson football lost on Saturday, but these AP voters are ridiculous
The Clemson football team loses one game on the road against a top-four team without its star quarterback and several defensive starters, and everyone loses their mind.
The Tigers entered South Bend as a slight favorite over Notre Dame despite missing Trevor Lawrence, James Skalski, Tyler Davis and Mike Jones Jr., but came out with a 47-40 loss in double overtime.
While most AP voters understood the fact that injuries had something to do with the loss to the Notre Dame team that is now ranked No. 2 in the country, two voters were oblivious or simply didn’t care.
Stadium’s Brett McMurphy and the Charleston Gazette-Mail’s Ryan PrittP both had the Tigers outside of their top five. McMuprhy listed Clemson as No. 6 with Alabama, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Texas A&M and Florida ranked ahead of them.
Pritt had the Tigers all the way back at No. 8 with Cincinnati and BYU inside his top five.
Haters of Clemson football will come out in full force, but the truth is that their opinion doesn’t matter
There’s no doubt that there are AP voters who were just looking for the chance to drop Clemson well before the Tigers ever lost to Notre Dame.
You simply can’t rank Notre Dame as the No. 2 team in the nation- which both McMurphy and Pritt do- and then not acknowledge that Clemson is a top-four team. That logic doesn’t make sense.
Clemson lost the game without its best player. Yes, the Tigers have their fair share of holes, but do you think that Florida and Texas A&M are flawless? The answer is a resounding ‘no.’
In the end, the AP poll doesn’t matter all that much because we all know that the Tigers pretty much control their own destiny to the CFB Playoff even with the loss, at least they should.
