Clemson football continues to see its star running back underrated
Despite his major successes and the legacy that he’ll leave in the Clemson football program, Travis Etienne remains the single most underrated player in the nation.
Etienne has been one of the most consistent playmakers in the history of the Clemson football program, but yet he so often gets overlooked. He has broken just about every rushing record there is to hold in the program and just recently became the ACC’s all-time leading rusher this year, as well.
Even though he continues to set records that very well may not be reached again for another half-century or more, Etienne is consistently overlooked.
The current Heisman odds list Etienne eighth behind names like DeVonta Smith and Najee Harris of Alabama, as well as Kyle Trask (Florida) and Zach Wilson (BYU). It’s not to take anything away from those players or to say that they’re not worth of being in the discussion, but it’s just so disappointing to see Etienne constantly be overlooked despite all the things he has accomplished.
Travis Etienne is the top playmaker in Clemson football history
Even in a year where Etienne’s rushing numbers have been a little down, he is still averaging nearly six yards per carry (5.9), which is higher than Najee Harris (5.8) who remains ahead of him in Heisman odds.
In addition, Etienne also has 1,040 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns, which would put him on pace to have more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage and over 20 touchdowns for yet another season.
But we still forget about him.
Clemson football fans need to enjoy and cherish the time that they have left with Travis Etienne. He has proven to be the best running back in the program and the top playmaker to ever don the orange & white.
If you don’t think so, you’re probably guilty of the same thing I fall into too many times: Overlooking his greatness.
