Amid the Trevor Lawrence news, Clemson football fans forget Saturday will be a record-setting day.
The college football world was rocked Thursday night when news broke that Clemson football quarterback not only tested positive but does in fact have mild symptoms. While everyone hopes that Trevor is able to focus on himself and get over the virus, there is still a football game Saturday afternoon.
A football game that will have a few exciting components to it.
Obviously, five-star freshman D.J. Uiagalelei will make his first-ever collegiate start. Everyone is excited to see what the young talented quarterback can do with the first-team offense. There has been some reservation because the offense has been stagnant when the first team exits the field but he will be running the first-team offense.
Regardless of his performance Saturday afternoon, he has earned the right to be here and has all the tools to be successful whether they are physical or mental.
The other overlooked aspect of Clemson football on Saturday is Travis Etienne.
With 43 yards on Saturday afternoon against Boston College, Travis Etienne will become the all-time ACC rushing yards leader. Think back to all the great running backs that have come before him and yet Travis is about to sit atop the throne. No running back currently active is even in the top 50.
To put this feat in perspective, Travis Etienne is 46th all-time in career carries in ACC history entering Saturday. By the time he breaks the ACC rushing record, he will still be somewhere between 42nd and 45th all-time in carries.
Just absolutely astonishing.
Boston College is coming into the game Saturday as of the worst teams in college football in rushing defense. They are giving up 165 yards a game to its opponents on the ground. One should obviously expect them to stack the box and force Uiagalelei to beat them through the air but Travis is going to have his opportunities and no running back in college football takes advantage of those opportunities like 9 does.
While it will suck not having Trevor on the field Saturday, there is plenty to look forward to and plenty to celebrate when Clemson football kicks off against Boston College at noon.
