How Miami comes away with an upset over Clemson football

The Clemson football team will take on the Miami Hurricanes in a game that features a top-7 matchup live in Death Valley on Saturday.

The Tigers, who are currently ranked No. 1 in the nation by the AP Poll, will be hosting the Hurricanes, who have jumped up to No. 7 in the land.

While there are still plenty of unknowns surrounding both teams, the Clemson football team still enters this game as a two-touchdown favorite at home over Miami. Though the Tigers are expected to win the game, that doesn’t mean they won’t be tested or couldn’t be potentially upset if things didn’t go in their favor.

Here’s a look at the things that must happen for Miami to be able to pull off the massive upset Saturday night.

Miami’s Upset Checklist against Clemson football on Saturday

  • D’Eriq King has to absolutely go off in both facets of his game
  • Miami has to find a way to utilize their running backs effectively against Clemson
  • The Tiger offense can’t quite kick into full gear or takes some time to get going
  • Miami needs several explosive plays (gains of 12 yards of more)
  • The Hurricanes have to win the turnover battle
  • Utilize those talented TEs to their advantage
  • Get out to an early lead, make the game into a shootout and hope to hold out.

If Miami wants to win this game, these are the things they’ll have to do.

First, you’re going to have to see D’Eriq King go off. King needs to be an effective runner and passer of the football. He’s going to have to look similar to UVA’s Brennan Armstrong, except probably throw for more yards.

It’s all about making it a shootout if you’re Miami. You want to be able to get King out in space, score a lot of points, potentially take an early lead and hope for the best outcome by making the game a high-scoring affair.

Though we wouldn’t put the percentage as high that Miami pulls off the upset, the Hurricanes certainly have the talent to make this one interesting, especially if Clemson makes some uncharacteristic mistakes.
