The Clemson football team will go head-to-head with a prolific quarterback Saturday evening

The Clemson football team is prepared to take on the No. 7-ranked Miami Hurricanes this Saturday evening in Death Valley.

The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. on ABC and will be the featured matchup of the week on ESPN College GameDay. Both the Tigers and the Hurricanes will be looking to remain undefeated on the season, take a major step towards being one of the two teams selected to play in the ACC Championship game and take the inside track on a potential CFB Playoff berth.

With so much at stake and the fact that this is the biggest regular season game for the Clemson football program in several years, there has been a comparison going around pertaining to opposing quarterbacks that the Tigers have and will face.

The last time Clemson played a top-10 team in the regular season, it was against the Louisville Cardinals who were led by Lamar Jackson. Jackson and Clemson football QB Deshaun Watson went head-to-head and it was Watson who came out victorious in a game that will forever be remembered as an instant classic.

Now, the Tigers will take on another prolific quarterback by the name of D’Eriq King.

Despite his athletic nature, Clemson football fans shouldn’t compare D’Eriq King with Lamar Jackson

King has plenty working for him. He has a decently strong arm and he is extremely athletic. He’s elusive and a playmaker that will have a chance to excel at the next level, but he’s not Lamar Jackson.

First of all, there’s about a three-inch difference between King (5-foot-11) and Jackson (6-foot-2) and about a 10 pound difference.

Other than the measurables, there’s a couple of major differences between the two when looking at their game. The most noticeable? Speed.

Lamar Jackson is the fastest person on the field every time he basically steps on a football field. While King is elusive and can certainly break off some big plays, he’s not the most athletic player on the field. In addition, Jackson was a guy in college who was running just as much as he was passing. King, on the other hand, looks to throw the ball first and can take off and run if needed.

Finally, there’s a little bit of a difference in arm talent. Jackson had more power in his throws while some of King’s passes seemingly have a little wobble. King has improved on his accuracy and is getting better. In a lot of ways, he’s reminiscent of a Kyler Murray or even Ian Book, perhaps with a little more upside.

dark. Next. 3 reasons to be concerned vs. Miami

No matter how you look at it, it’s unfair to both King and Jackson to make that comparison.
