Clemson Football: Opening Line vs. Miami way too high for comfort
Clemson football set for major showdown in Death Valley this weekend
The Clemson football team will take on the Miami Hurricanes Saturday evening in Death Valley in a game that has major CFB Playoff implications.
The Tigers, who enter the game ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation, will be looking to defend their 31-game regular season winning streak that is the longest in the country. Though Miami is the unproven up-and-comer, the Hurricanes have looked good in their first few games, earning a No. 7 overall ranking in the latest AP Poll.
Clemson football, though dominant in its first three games, has certainly showed some areas in which it still needs to develop.
Despite those potential holes, the opening line for this game opened at 16 points and is currently sitting at around 14.5.
Clemson football is good, but this team still has something to prove
There’s no doubt that the Tigers are going to be one of the top teams in the nation this year simply because of the playmakers they possess, as well as the talent and depth of the whole roster.
That being said, being favored by two touchdowns is quite a large spread for a team that just allowed Virginia to go for 417 total yards of offense, have 25 first downs and convert on 4-of-5 fourth down attempts. Especially when you add in that Miami has one of the nation’s most dynamic players in D’Eriq King at quarterback and a vaunted pass-rush defensively.
Clemson is still the more talented team and the Tigers should win on paper, but I’d be wary as a Clemson football fan of believing this team is going to come in and win by two touchdowns or more Saturday night.
It could happen and the stage simply might be too big for Miami, but we shouldn’t pretend that the Hurricanes are a slouch by any means heading into this one.
