Clemson vs. Miami could be ESPN College GameDay feature matchup
The Clemson Tigers could have a top-10 matchup on their hands in just a few weeks when they take on the Miami Hurricanes in Death Valley.
The Tigers, who improved to 2-0 on the season with a win over The Citadel this past Saturday, are now in the midst of a bye week as they prepare to take on the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday, Oct. 3 in a game that will be televised at 8 p.m. on the ACC Network.
While the game against the Cavaliers has its own intrigue as the rematch from last year’s ACC Championship, the matchup the following weekend could be even bigger from a national perspective.
As a matter of fact, there’s a chance we see ESPN College GameDay make its way down to Clemson for the game against the Hurricanes.
Clemson vs. Miami could be the biggest regular season game in quite a while for the Tigers
In the updated AP Poll, Clemson remains No. 1 in the nation and Miami jumped up to No. 12 after a win on the road against Louisville last weekend.
Miami will have a matchup against Florida State this weekend and then will have a bye week before traveling up to Clemson for the big-time ACC matchup. As long as the Tigers and Hurricanes take care of business, we easily could be talking about a top-10 matchup. Interestingly enough, if that were to happen, this would be the first top-10 team Clemson has faced in the regular season since Louisville back in 2016.
The one hurdle to getting ESPN College GameDay in town? The fact that the show will have already featured Miami twice. The Hurricanes were the feature of the show this past weekend against Louisville and will now be the feature again this week with Florida State.
It should also be mentioned that the slate of games that Oct. 10 weekend is no joke. In addition to Clemson-Miami, we’ve got several current top-25 matchups including: Tennessee at Georgia, Florida at Texas A&M and Virginia Tech at North Carolina.
The good news? Texas A&M plays Alabama the week before they play Florida and Tennessee could very well lose to Missouri or South Carolina before they get the Bulldogs.
For College GameDay to come to Clemson, both of those things likely have to happen.
