AP voter drops Clemson football after the Tigers’ win over The Citadel

Though the Clemson football team came away with an impressive 49-point victory over The Citadel, one AP voter dropped the Tigers in their latest ballot.

247 Sports reported Sunday evening that Pat Dooley of the Gainesville Sun had dropped Clemson football from No. 1 in his poll to No. 2 after the Tigers blanked The Citadel and moved to 2-0 on the season. Dooley now has the Alabama Crimson Tide ranked No. 1 in the nation, though they have yet to play a game yet.

Clemson remains ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the AP Poll and will have this week off before returning to action to take on the Virginia Cavaliers at home in two weeks.

This is why Clemson football fans don’t put any stock in the AP Poll

One vote in the grand scheme of things means very little, especially since the AP Poll doesn’t help determine much when it comes to the outcome of the season anyway.

That being said, a change like this is exactly why Clemson football fans don’t put any amount of stock into the AP Poll.

It’s understandable for people in the preseason to decide to put Alabama over Clemson, if that’s what they believe. But there’s nothing in the first two weeks of the season that should lead you to change your mind, essentially, and now say that Bama should be over the Tigers based off the body of work of the first two weeks of the year- where Clemson has played and dominated its two opponents, and Alabama hasn’t even begun its season yet.

In the end, though, we all know that this is much to do about nothing. Clemson football has an inside track to the CFB Playoff and the Tigers just need to focus on winning games, not looking at rankings or ballots.
