Clemson vs. The Citadel: Scoring Prediction for home opener

The No. 1-ranked Clemson Tigers will return home for the first time this season when they play host to The Citadel Bulldogs Saturday afternoon in Death Valley.

The Tigers and Bulldogs will square off at 4 p.m. live on the ACC Network in front of about 19,000 Clemson football fans.

Clemson opened up the 2020 season with a convincing 37-13 win over Wake Forest last Saturday and the Tigers enter this game as more than 40-point favorites against their lone in-state opponent of the season in The Citadel.

Analysis & Prediction: Why Clemson absolutely blows out The Citadel

There’s a reason why the Tigers are so heavily favored coming into this one as they simply have more depth and talent at every single position compared to The Citadel.

While the Bulldogs may be able to pull off a score or two, it won’t be long before this one becomes a route. Expect Trevor Lawrence to play the first half and be done, and we’ll get a heavy dose of D.J. Uiagalelei and Co. in the second half.

It’s going to be a fun game in terms of depth building, but it won’t be competitive at all when it comes to the scoreboard. You can pretty much pick a number and that’s what the Tigers are capable of scoring, but I don’t believe that Dabo Swinney will run up the score or keep his starters in any longer than he has to.

The overall goal in this game? Continue to build chemistry among the newcomers, build depth in the second and third strings and escape the afternoon without major injury.

Prediction: Clemson 58, The Citadel 7
