Are Clemson football fans in the Twilight Zone?
“It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.”
It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.
The apparent nature of College Football in 2020 is similar to an episode of the popular TV show, which began airing back in the year 1959. For those who are unfamiliar, the Twilight Zone is a SCI-FI television series that featured different stories with different characters who end up in unusual- and some times even paranormal- circumstances and their journey through those situations.
One could argue that the entire year of 2020 has been nothing but a big episode of the Twilight Zone, but let’s take a step further: Are Clemson football fans in the Twilight Zone?
For the first time ever, Clemson & SEC fans are uniting together in hopes of a season being played this fall
Do you remember the last time Clemson and the ACC united with the SEC? The answer is ‘no’ because it’s never happened.
For the longest time, SEC fans have done nothing but wave their conference flag in the hopes of diminishing the ACC and, especially, the thorn in their side: Clemson football.
Though the SEC decided to go with a conference-only schedule and backed out of the in-state rivalry games with the ACC, it seems the two conferences- along with the Big 12 and a couple of Group of 5 conferences- are joint at the hip as we head into the fall.
Now, all of a sudden, the two conferences- especially Clemson vs. the SEC- who have bickered back and forth are working together, at least in some form or fashion.
Fan from the two leagues are laughing at the same videos.
They’re banding together sharing hopeful medical content. They’re joining in on bashing the Big Ten with its lack of leadership and transparency. They’re hopeful for a fall season and even if the conferences determine it’s not safe enough to play, it seems that they’re willing to take the journey together no matter where the road ends.
No matter what happens this year the rest of the way, one thing we should always remember is the few weeks of apparent comradery found between fans of both leagues because, let’s be honest, it’s probably never going to happen again.
For now, though, welcome to the Twilight Zone.
