Trevor Lawrence’s Heisman chances for 2020 just increased exponentially
Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence has an opportunity to do what no Tiger has ever done before, and his chances of doing so just increased exponentially.
Trevor Lawrence, who enters his junior season with the Clemson football program, is currently considered to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft but he still has much more on his mind.
Lawrence has been the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy ever since the early odds were released shortly after last season, but those chances have increased two-fold over the last week.
Why?
- His biggest competition in Justin Fields won’t be playing.
- He has become to face of College Football.
Trevor Lawrence has a chance to do what no other Tiger has ever done
It’s truly heartbreaking, even coming from a Clemson fan, that we won’t get to see another year of Justin Fields. That Ohio State offense was set to be prolific- led by Fields- and he was and is a special player.
That being said, with Fields out of the equation, Lawrence is now the clear favorite for the Heisman Trophy and it’s really not even that close at this point.
There are a few others who could certainly make a run at the award, but they’re going to have to make up significant ground on Trevor Lawrence and that’s because of our second reason: Lawrence has become the face of College Football.
Because of his voice in the offseason, more people recognize and are pulling for Lawrence than ever before. Voters have taken notice of what Lawrence brings to the table in terms of his off-the-field leadership and character. If he’s able to have anything close to a good season on the field, voters are going to pile up in droves to give him the award.
If we’re able to have a season, Trevor Lawrence is likely going to be the Heisman winner. Can you imagine his lasting legacy at Clemson being winning a Heisman and two National Championships? Well, it’s certainly on the table for the talented gunslinger.
