ESPN football analyst uses Trevor Lawrence to gain attention again
Trevor Lawrence finding out people love you one minute and criticize you the next.
No one thinks that Trevor Lawrence is perfect, especially Trevor Lawrence. He will be the first one to tell you what he needs to work on and what areas of his game have to improve if he is going to successfully take the next step.
The good news for Lawrence is he will be the first overall pick in 2021 or 2022 when he decides to declare, despite the criticism that comes his way.
Wednesday on ESPN, one time NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky took shots at Trevor’s game.
"Anticipation throws and getting the ball out of his hands before receivers are opened,” said Orlovsky. “It’s not necessarily demanded of him too much in that Clemson offense, but you want to see him develop that and grow that."
Trevor’s arm talent is the main reason that NFL scouts cannot wait for him to declare. Orlovsky is overlooking the fact that just because Trevor does need to throw guys open in college, does not mean he cannot do it or that he doesn’t do it.
Ball placement and arm strength are two of Trevor’s biggest assets and attributes as a quarterback. Those are two things that half of the starting quarterbacks in the NFL cannot do and he excels at them. Sure, people may ooh and ahh over catches that both Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross made of the last two seasons, but those catches were made possible because Trevor understands where to put the ball to give his guys a chance at making a play.
Dan Orlovsky needs to make up his mind on Trevor Lawrence
Over the last two years, Orlovsky has loved to talk about Trevor Lawrence and has never been consistent when talking about him.
Just a year ago, Trevor Lawrence was a national title game legend getting ready to face Texas A&M to open up the season and Orlovsky didn’t think Trevor Lawrence was that much better than Kellen Mond.
"“Let’s be honest — college quarterback-wise, I’m not talking about NFL prospects,” Orlovsky said. “College quarterback-wise Trevor Lawrence and Kellen Mond aren’t all that different. Kellen Mond is a very good player.”"
Fast-forward just a few months, Joe Burrow was running away with every college award and would go on to become the first pick in the 2020 NFL draft but Dan Orlovsky had this to say on the Joe Burrow vs Trevor Lawrence debate.
"“We really haven’t seen someone like Joe Burrow and this LSU offense. We really haven’t, the ability to do everything, short throw, long throw, crossing throw, big ball,” Orlovsky said. “But we haven’t seen this version of Trevor Lawrence before either… to have to mount this comeback against a very good Oklahoma State team, and get beat up… with all respect for Joe Burrow, I’m taking Trevor Lawrence, the kid that is the best prospect since Andrew Luck.”"
Orlovsky clearly uses Trevor Lawrence’s name to gain clout every few months when people forget he exists and there isn’t a hotter name from coast to coast at the moment than Trevor’s. This just seems like nothing more than a way for Dan to get the attention he fails to generate on his own.
