Not everyone was happy for Trevor Lawrence this weekend.

In case you have not seen or heard it yet from the hundreds of news outlets, Trevor Lawrence got engaged to his high school sweetheart over the weekend. What should be a joyous and celebratory time instead was used to take shots at the junior quarterback.

Trevor popped the question on the field at Death Valley and most were extremely happy that two young people will start planning their futures together. Apparently, former Richmond baseball player and part-time sportscaster Matt Trent is among the few that are jealous of the success that Trevor Lawrence is finding on and off the field.

Trent used the news to call Joe Burrow “daddy” and to take a cheap shot at Lawrence.

Trevor Lawrence is already more accomplished than Joe Burrow

Remember, Lawrence has helped the Tigers to a 29-1 record his first two years in Clemson. He has led them to two ACC championships, a 3-1 record in the College Football Playoff’s and became just the second true freshman to lead a team to a national title in major college football.

Lawrence and the Tigers came across an offensive juggernaut in the 2019 LSU football program that was led by Burrow, who in his fifth year of college football eligibility, had arguable the greatest season a college quarterback has ever had.

Sure, Burrow is just 15 months younger than Deshaun Watson who is entering his fourth NFL season and older than current NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, but he still got it done in 2019 for LSU and helped the Tigers win their first national title in more than a decade.

2020 will be a great year on the field for Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson Tigers as they are arguably the most talented team in the country, one cannot say the same for Joe Burrow and Cincinnati Bengals.
