Trevor Lawrence is a seasoned veteran on and off the field.

Since Trevor Lawrence was a freshman at Cartersville High School, the next level was impatiently waiting for his arrival. On the field, he had every attribute you could want in a college football quarterback – footwork, speed, athleticism, arm strength, and an off the chart football IQ.

As a college football star, the next level is impatiently waiting for his arrival as well. Like John Elway and Andrew Luck before him, Trevor Lawrence is considered a generational can’t miss quarterback. After meeting with the media at the conclusion of practice on Friday, he showed he is just as savvy on the fly with the media as he is on the field scrambling.

“I have another one. People are forgetting I have four years here”

While that is obviously taken out of context for the purpose of this article, let’s use it to analyze Trevor’s ability to adapt on the fly.

His words prior to that were “I wanted to play my last year here if that’s what I decide to do.” As soon as Trevor said that, Lawrence knew that those words would be used to create a season-long distraction that he was leaving Clemson after three years and that his teammates did not that as they attempt to win their sixth straight ACC title and make a sixth straight appearance in the College Football Playoffs.

At that moment he reminded everyone that he knows what his options are that he is considering all of them.

Trevor Lawrence is not a flash in the pan type of player. His draft stock is not dropping whether he comes out in 2020 or 2021 and he understands that. He also isn’t the type of player that is going to play scared for fear of injury.

The NCAA allows programs to take out and pay for insurance policies on players and you can be sure that Clemson has done that for both Travis Etienne and Lawrence should they suffer injuries. But unlike other prospects that fluctuate in draft status, Lawrence has been firm atop the 2021/2022 draft class since he was a junior in high school and has the comfort knowing that this will not change.

While no one outside his immediate circle knows what his plans outside of 2021 are, but Trevor is too smart to create a distraction and that is good enough.
