Trevor Lawrence puts opt out speculation to bed
Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence has been one of the hottest names in the country in terms of players that could opt out of the 2020 College Football season, at least in the eyes of the media.
Of course, that makes perfect sense from the outside looking in.
Trevor Lawrence has already won a National Championship and led Clemson football to two CFB Playoff appearances and two ACC Championships. He’s only lost one game in his career and he is slated to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft less than a year from now.
Despite all the reasoning behind why Lawrence may choose to opt out, the Tiger QB met with the media Friday evening via Zoom and said that opting out was never something he really seriously considered.
There’s not another QB like Trevor Lawrence in the country
Trevor Lawrence is more than just an elite quarterback, he’s a guy that has a team-first mentality. You couldn’t have blamed him if he did choose to opt out, but instead he feels like he has unfinished business and wants to get on the field and leave a lasting legacy with this Clemson football program.
Lawrence did go on to say that if the season timeline changed (i.e. it gives moved to the spring) that he’d “cross that bridge when he got there,” which should’ve been expected.
As far as the offseason is concerned, Lawrence said he worked most on accuracy and that he spent the most time working out with WR Amari Rodgers.
In addition, Lawrence also took time to speak on his leadership. He became more of a team leader this offseason and that should be expected to continue through the year as the Tigers begin to play games.
Overall, this was an insightful press conference from Lawrence that shows his maturity and focus are at an all-time high as the Tigers progress towards the start of the 2020 season.
