Clemson Football: NCAA will allow each division to decide its fall fate
We’re one step closer to a Clemson football season
As Clemson football fans look on in hopes of a 2020 season, the NCAA will reportedly allow all fall championships to be decided by division.
The Stadium’s Brett McMurphy reported Tuesday evening that the NCAA Board of Governors did not vote on fall sports championships and instead will allow each division (Division 1, 2, & 3) to decide how to proceed with fall sports.
This decision was made, according to McMurphy, because of the drastic difference between NCAA Divisions.
While there are still plenty of questions, it seems we will some semblance of Clemson football this fall
One of the major obstacles standing in the way of the Power 5 playing College Football this fall was the NCAA Board of Governors. There was talks of the Board of Governors canceling fall championships, which would’ve created bad optics for Power 5 football if they chose to proceed with playing while other sports were canceled.
According to this report, the NCAA is going to refrain from making the decision and instead allow each division to make its own choice. As McMurphy notes, Division 1 schools have more resources and more at stake in terms of revenue lost or generated than those in the lower divisions.
What this all boils down to is pretty simple: All signs point to us seeing Clemson football this fall. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be hurdles along the way.
There are still concerns being raised by many athletes and coaches across the nation. There are still questions when it comes to protocol. There are still optics battles that will have to be addressed.
Even if we get into a season, there are questions on protocols and safety measures that will be taken in College Football and what will happen if we see several shutdowns across the nation or in conferences.
Still, this is a small step towards Clemson football returning in some capacity and that can’t be denied.
