Clemson at Notre Dame on Labor Day is how the 2020 season should kickoff
The biggest opponent on the 2020 Clemson football schedule could be the season-opener
Earlier this week, the ACC announced a major change to its 2020 season schedules noting that teams would play 10 conference games and would be allowed one non-conference tilt, as well.
While there are still plenty of questions about the upcoming season and how it relates to Clemson, the opponents are set and the premier program is apparent: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
While Clemson and Notre Dame were previously scheduled to play in November of this season, the new ACC model could allow the two teams to play on a different date and there’s only one real solution.
Clemson vs. Notre Dame on Labor Day night should definitely happen
Notre Dame and Clemson are the clear-cut favorites to play for the ACC Championship this season. Yes, we could see a team like North Carolina or Louisville make a run, but there’s no doubt that the Tigers and Fighting Irish are the teams to beat heading into the season.
So what does that mean?
The ACC may very well look to play this game early in the season for two reasons: First so you don’t see a rematch just weeks later in the conference title game. Secondly, so the loser of the game can have time to work their way back up the rankings and potentially get back in the CFB Playoff picture.
With that being said, it only makes sense that we see the two teams open up the 2020 season and play on Labor Day night.
The ACC announced that teams will begin playing the week of Labor Day and that, in my opinion, was tactical. They want to fill that Labor Day night spot and why not open up the season with a big bang?
It makes a ton of sense and would give us something to look forward to right off the bat as the College Football season kicks off.
