Clemson football offers 4-star ATH from Maryland

The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class is currently looking to fill two spots at the cornerback position and one of those could be this later offer.

4-star ATH Jalil Farooq, a talented Maryland prospect, announced an offer from Clemson football on Wednesday.

Farooq has offers from several major programs, including Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State, Michigan and Texas A&M.

Farooq, 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, has eight crystal ball predictions from 247 Sports’ Recruiting Analysts and they all go to Oklahoma currently.

While the Tigers would love to add him to the 2021 recruiting class, it’s clear that the Clemson football coaching staff faces an uphill battle to get heavily involved with Farooq.

Clemson football would have to steal Farooq from Oklahoma

It’s not just about stealing Farooq from Oklahoma, it’s also about convincing him to play on the defensive side of the ball.

Farooq is currently rated as the No. 24 WR in the country and the No. 6 overall player in the state of Maryland. He has several offers to play wide receiver in college and it would seem that’s the position he prefers to play.

If that’s the case, the Tigers wouldn’t just have to get involved with his recruitment. They’d also have to make a convincing argument for why he should play cornerback instead of wide receiver in college.

It’s not to say that the Tigers are completely out of it or that they can’t get involved, but we’d put the odds very low that Dabo Swinney and his crew end up basically flipping Farooq from Oklahoma when it’s all said and done. But crazier things have happened.

Clemson is currently looking for two cornerbacks in the 2021 class. The Tigers previously suffered a decommitment from 4-star CB Jordan Hancock, who later committed to Ohio State.
