Could Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence sit out the 2020 season?
Trevor Lawrence enters the 2020 season as a consensus first-round pick and a Heisman favorite.
The Clemson quarterback has led the Tigers to two National Championship appearances, a National Title and two ACC Championships in his two years with the program and there’s a major expectation coming into this year that he could potentially even surpass Deshaun Watson in terms of what he is able to accomplish before heading off to the NFL.
That being said, many national analysts have speculated that Trevor Lawrence could sit out the 2020 season altogether.
The 2020 season is in question, in general, and the overarching belief at this point is that if we do play, we’ll either see a conference-only schedule that is postponed later to the fall or even not started until the spring. Obviously, the next question is if we would even have a CFB Playoff or postseason.
You couldn’t blame Trevor Lawrence if he did choose to sit-out
In a season where Lawrence’s top receiving target- Justyn Ross- is already going to be out with an injury. And a situation where the season could be delayed- not even start to the spring- or at best played with a conference-only schedule that may include one non-conference game and a potential makeshift CFB Playoff, it would certainly be understandable if Trevor Lawrence chose to sit out and not risk injury before the start of his professional career.
That being said, it doesn’t seem all that likely to happen.
Knowing what we know about Lawrence, his competitive drive and what he wants to accomplish as the face of the Clemson football program, you would likely have to see the season moved to 2021 for him to opt-out.
Lawrence has proven over the course of his career that he wants to put his teammates first and there’s no doubt that he is committed to the Tigers, despite what those on the outside-looking-in may say about his decisions.
