Could Clemson football still play Notre Dame in 2020?
With the ACC likely expected to adopt a conference-only model for the 2020 fall season, Clemson football could still see a match-up with Notre Dame.
The Big Ten announced Thursday afternoon that it was likely going to proceed with a plan to play a conference-only schedule in the fall, and that was likely the first domino for the rest of the Power-5 leagues to follow suit.
With the Big Ten making this move and ACC teams already having to adjust their schedules due to previously scheduled non-conference match-ups, there certainly has been a question as to what that would mean for Notre Dame.
Specifically, Clemson football fans want to know about the Tigers’ match-up with the Fighting Irish.
ACC Reporter David Teel said Tuesday following the announcement that John Swofford plans to have Notre Dame in the works for if the conference chose to go the route of only playing games in the league.
How will the 2020 Clemson football schedule be changed?
Decisions have to be made here in the near future and the Big Ten likely just shed the first bit of light as to what we’re going to see this year.
As much as we want to have a full 12-game College Football season, it just doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen at this point.
If the ACC does choose to go to a league-only format in 2020, it doesn’t look like Clemson football will lose its match-up with Notre Dame. The Tigers will likely be forced to cancel games against Akron and The Citadel (if things go this way) and it will be interesting to see what happens with the South Carolina game, which is mandated by state law to be played.
It’s all up-in-the-air at this point and it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks as we track closer towards the start of the presumed College Football season.
