How long before Deshaun Watson gets that ‘Patrick Mahomes money?’

Former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson has been a constant-climber in the league since he began his career with the Houston Texans.

Though many doubted Watson- and that led to his fall in the draft- there has been no doubt over the last couple of seasons that the former Tiger QB is set to become one of the next great quarterbacks in the league.

One quarterback who was drafted the same year as Deshaun Watson- a player by the name of Patrick Mahomes- just got absolutely paid.

Mahomes, who was drafted No. 10 overall in 2017 by the Kansas City Chiefs, recently signed the single-largest contract in American sports history when he inked a 10-year deal worth $450 million with the Chiefs.

At age 24, Mahomes was the youngest quarterback in the league’s history to be named a Super Bowl MVP and that contract just proved the amount of worth the Chiefs believe they have in him moving forward.

So, it begs the question: When will it be Deshaun Watson’s turn to get paid?

Deshaun Watson deserves that next-level contract

The Texans have made some questionable moves over the last few seasons and none were more questionable than trading away Deandre Hopkins– arguably the best WR in the league- and not even getting a first-round pick in return.

With that being said, the organization has some work to do if it wants to lock up Deshaun Watson long-term.

While Watson hasn’t ascended to the heights of Mahomes yet- in terms of winning a Super Bowl, at least- he has shown the potential and promise to be a championship-winning QB if he has a supporting cast. Mahomes had been given several skill players and a talented offensive line, something Watson has not had in his arsenal to this point.

If the Texans want to keep Watson long-term, they need to make the move now to give him ‘Mahomes-level money.’ It’s not to say that Watson has to be given $450 million, but there needs to be a legitimate offer on the table and that can’t really be argued at this point.

Next. Why a shortened or moved CFB season would hurt Clemson. dark

It’s only a matter of time before Deshaun Watson is the next young QB to receive a major payout and it will be interesting to see just how much he’s able to cash in before it’s all said and done. Clemson football fans will certainly be there for it.
