Despite losing several elite players to the NFL draft as well as Justyn Ross to season-ending surgery, Clemson football is still loaded with talent.
Clemson football will be extremely young again in 2020. Sure, there are several upperclassmen on the Tigers two-deep roster, but there are a lot more freshman and sophomores than juniors and seniors. However, those freshmen and sophomores are also some of the most talented players that Clemson has ever been able to assemble on a roster.
Recently, 247Sports put out their 20 college football that will swing the 2020 college football season and an unsuspecting Tigers player makes the cut.
Welcome to the national spotlight Joseph Ngata.
"So Trevor Lawrence loses a second-round talent to the NFL Draft in Tee Higgins? No biggie. He’s got an even better version coming back in Justyn Ross.Or at least that was the plan.Unfortunately, Ross has already been ruled out for the 2020 season and while some experience returns led by Amari Rodgers and Cornell Powell, neither of those guys are true No. 1 receivers and downfield threats the likes of Ross and Higgins. If Lawrence is to lead Clemson past the teams that matter in the playoffs, he will need Joe Ngata to step up in a big way. Fellow 2019 classmate Frank Ladson or even a true freshman like E.J. Williams would do, too."
Clemson football receivers have to find an identity in order for the Tigers to be successful.
Elite high school wider receivers have flocked to Clemson over the last decade to play in big moments and develop into high-level NFL draft picks and sophomore Joseph Ngata left California to be a Tiger for those reasons.
It will help to have a senior like Amari Rodgers as far as the locker room leadership and we all know that he comes up clutch in big moments, but Amari isn’t the type of receiver to stretch the field and that is going to be key to the Tigers offense in 2020.
Both Ngata and his 2023 classmate Frank Ladson Jr.will have an even bigger role in the offense than anyone imagined heading into the 2020 offseason.
