Clemson Football: Travis Etienne will leave as greatest ACC RB of all-time
Clemson football is about to have an all-time great rusher in the ACC
Clemson football fans were left in shock and absolute exultation when RB Travis Etienne announced that he would be returning to school for one final season.
Etienne, who likely would’ve been drafted in the second or third round of the 2020 NFL Draft, elected to come back to the Clemson football program to increase his draft stock and earn his degree.
Etienne had already broken Clemson’s all-time rushing record in just three seasons and is already the all-time touchdown leader for the ACC. Now, he’s about to put records out of reach and finish off what he started.
The Clemson football RB will hold the all-time rushing record in the ACC
Here’s a look at the top five all-time rushers– in terms of yardage- in ACC history.
- Ted Brown (4,602)
- Dalvin Cook (4,464)
- Amos Lawrence (4,391)
- AJ Dillon (4,382)
- Lamont Jordan (4,147)
For those of you that are wondering, Travis Etienne already has 4,038 yards rushing in his career. Despite the fact that he has only averaged 12.05 carries per game during his career, Etienne boasts a massive 7.8 yards per carry number and has 62 career touchdowns.
Barring something unforeseen, there’s really no question that Etienne will hold the ACC’s all-time rushing record before it’s all said and done and he’ll have an opportunity to move into the top portion of College Football’s all-time rushers.
Not only will he put up major numbers, though, Etienne is going to leave as the greatest running back of all-time not just in Clemson football history, but in the ACC’s history. All you have to do is look at his pure dominance, yards per carry numbers and accomplishments and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Etienne has already been the ACC Player of the Year two years in a row. Could he make it three? He is a Heisman contender and likely to be an All-American for yet another season.
We’re watching history unfold in front of us in the form of No. 9 and it won’t be long before he’s recognized as one of the all-time greats.
