8. 2011 (First ACC Championship)

Record: 10-4

Notable Games:

  • 38-24 win vs. No. 21 Auburn
  • 35-30 win vs. No. 11 Florida State
  • 23-3 win at No. 11 Virginia Tech
  • 31-17 loss at Georgia Tech
  • 34-13 loss at No. 14 South Carolina
  • 38-10 win vs. No. 5 Virginia Tech in the ACC Championship
  • 70-33 loss to West Virginia in the Orange Bowl

For the next season ranked, you have to go back a few years.

After an abysmal 2010 season- the worst in the Dabo era- Clemson finished the regular season with a 9-3 record and made the trip to the ACC Championship for the second time in the past three seasons. Though most analysts didn’t give them a chance, they came away with a big-time 38-10 win over No. 5 Virginia Tech to win their first conference title in more than two decades.

Clemson also went on to lose the Orange Bowl 70-33 to West Virginia. While that is a loss many Tiger fans would like to forget, it did lead to the firing of Kevin Steele and the subsequent hiring of Brent Venables, and we all know how that turned out.
