Clemson football was only taking one quarterback in the 2021 recruiting cycle and today they got their guy.

Today North Oconee HS quarterback Bubba Chandler made it official and committed to play football and baseball at Clemson. For nearly 18 months, he had been committed to playing baseball at the University of Georgia.

Until May 7th, the largest college football offer that Chandler had received was from Charlotte. Watching his game film, there is a lot of mystery as to why this was the case. Insert Clemson quarterback coach Brandon Streeter.

After being burned by the first two quarterbacks that he offered in the 2021 class, Streeter turned his attention to the Peach State prospect and got his man. In the 2021 class, Clemson had offered five quarterbacks in total – Drake Maye (UNC), Christian Veilleux (Penn State) Caleb Williams, Eli Stowers (Texas A&M), and Chandler.

When the Tigers offered back on May 7th, Bubba was an unranked football player but a highly sought after a baseball player. In the 13 days since that offer, Chandler has become the 21st ranked quarterback in the country and is currently considered a three-star prospect.

Clemson football 2021 recruiting class is far from finished

Bubba Chandler is currently the first and only three-star prospect for the Clemson football 2021 class and will more than likely be the only one. Though he should his ranking improve over the next six months.

Chandlers commitment temporarily dropped the Tigers overall per player average to .9478, which moved them behind Ohio State at the moment, though that will change as Clemson brings in several more five-star prospects for 2021.

The Tigers now have 12 commitments for the 2021 class and will sign between 18-21 players for the class. We should expect the remaining nine spots to be occupied by some of the nation’s best available.

As coach Dabo Swinney always says, the best is yet to come.
