Where does Clemson football QB Trevor Lawrence rank in terms of the quarterbacks around the nation? Here’s a look Sporting News’ rankings.

The Clemson football program has slowly become ‘QBU’ over the course of the last few seasons and the Tigers may have their most talented quarterback on their roster right now.

Trevor Lawrence enters his junior season as the No. 1 prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft and there’s no doubting that he has the ability to do some special things in his final year with Clemson football before heading to the NFL.

Sporting News released rankings of the top-25 quarterbacks in the nation for the 2020 season and, to no surprise, Lawrence was on top of the list.

Here’s a look at the top-10 quarterbacks in the nation, according to Sporting News.

  1. Trevor Lawrence (Clemson)
  2. Justin Fields (Ohio State)
  3. Sam Howell (UNC)
  4. Sam Ehlinger (Texas)
  5. Ian Book (Notre Dame)
  6. Kedon Slovis (USC)
  7. Jayden Daniels (Arizona State)
  8. Brock Purdy (Iowa State)
  9. Tanner Morgan (Minnesota)
  10. Jamie Newman (Georgia)

Analysis:

When you look at this list of quarterbacks, there is one thing that comes to my mind first. It’s clear that Trevor Lawrence is a step ahead and Justin Fields is on a second-level and then there’s everyone else.

Sam Howell and Jamie Newman are both talented quarterbacks who have shown plenty of promise during their time- Howell with UNC and Newman with Wake Forest before transferring- and it will be interesting to see how they perform this season in years where they could certainly move up and increase their draft stock.

There is a great love around the nation with Kedon Slovis of USC and it will be interesting to see if he can live up to the hype this season- as some are predicting him to be a Heisman contender.
