There is a lot of talk about where Clemson football quarterback Trevor Lawrence would be ranked had he been eligible for the 2020 NFL draft.

There is a lot of love for the hit wonder known as Joe Burrow. Take nothing away from him, he had the single greatest season in college football history and we will likely not see that again in the foreseeable future.

However, does that make him a better pro prospect than Trevor Lawrence?

Listening to draft know-it-alls like Mel Kiper, you would think that Joe Burrow was the greatest college football player of all time and that it is going to carry over to the NFL. Remember, this is the same guy that thought Jimmy Clausen was a generational talent too.

However, there is one big publication that believes anyone doubting Trevor Lawrence is on the wrong side of the argument. Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked all of the quarterbacks from the 2020 and 2021 NFL draft and they believe that Trevor Lawrence is, in fact, the best of both drafts.

Anyone that has the ability to be objective can see that Trevor Lawrence is not a one-hit-wonder like Joe Burrow was. Trevor led Clemson football to a national title as a true freshman and carved up what was labeled the best defense in college football history at the time en-route to a tail kicking no one saw coming.

Sure, he had a “sophomore slump” if that is what you call going undefeated and improving in every single statistical category that a quarterback is judged on. Sure, he threw a couple more interceptions than he did as a freshman, but he was also tasked with a lot more responsibility as well.

While it will be more than a decade before we know which quarterback ended up being the best professional quarterback, there is no doubt that Trevor is the better of the two in the college game. After he leads Clemson football to another national title in 2020, everyone else will realize he is the better pro prospect as well.
