Greatest Clemson football players of Danny Ford era: 3. William ‘The Refrigerator’ Perry

William Perry made an immediate impact from the moment he stepped on campus and it’s clear that his legend lives on to this day.

Perry was the most feared defensive lineman in the country during his career at Clemson (1981-84) and his accolades show that much.

Perry set the record for career sacks (25) until his brother Michael Dean Perry broke it just a few years later. Currently, “The Refrigerator” still sits No. 4 all-time in sacks in school history. During his senior season, Perry led the nation in tackles for loss with 2.45 per game and he was a finalist for the Lombardi Trophy.

Not only did Perry win a National Championship as a freshman, he was drafted by the Chicago Bears and went on to win a Super Bowl as a rookie.
