Clemson Football: Now we just need the Raiders to add Deshaun Watson
Former Clemson football players are being drafted left and right by the Las Vegas Raiders. Now it’s just time for the franchise to add a Tiger quarterback.
The Las Vegas Raiders have drafted more Clemson football players the past two seasons than any other franchise in the league.
After selecting Clelin Ferrell, Trayvon Mullen and Hunter Renfrow in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders followed that up by taking Tanner Muse and John Simpson in the mid-rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The term ‘Clemson West‘ is now being used as a new nickname for the franchise, which is set to play its first season in Las Vegas this coming year.
As we look at the Clemson football players already on the Raiders’ roster- with potential for more to be added in the future- the truth of the matter is this: The Raiders are just a talented quarterback away from becoming extremely competitive and relevant again.
Is Derek Carr the answer? While Carr has shown signs at times, it does seem that the franchise would be more than open to another name who could become available at some point in the future: Former Clemson football QB Deshaun Watson.
Watson saw his favorite receiving target traded away in DeAndre Hopkins for next-to-nothing earlier in the spring. While Bill O’Brien has maintained that the Texans want to extend Watson to a long-term deal, the quarterback could force their hand before it’s all said and done.
Watson’s contract has a team-option for the 2021 season, so he could technically stay on the same deal for two more seasons. That being said, many NFL organizations have begun to target a Watson as a potential trade option following this coming season.
If things go south between him and the Texans, Watson may be inclined to move elsewhere and that could put the Las Vegas Raiders in prime position to get their quarterback. A trade that included Derek Carr and a couple of draft picks for Watson would be a deal that the Texans would be hard-pressed to turn down if Watson makes it clear that he won’t be re-signing.
All we need is for Deshaun Watson to reunite with many of his former Clemson football teammates- including Hunter Renfrow, we might add- and the possibility of it happening is certainly not as far-fetched as it might seem on the surface.
