Clemson Football: Carolina Panthers majorly disappoint Tiger fans
The Clemson football faithful held out hope that the former Tiger Isaiah Simmons would become a ‘hometown hero’ and be drafted by the Carolina Panthers with pick No. 7.
Instead, the Panthers chose to take a defensive tackle in Derrick Brown (Auburn) over Simmons. That absolutely disgusted and crushed the hearts of Clemson football fans everywhere.
A good portion of Clemson football fans are also Carolina Panthers fans. The Tigers have won five-straight ACC Championships, most of which have been played in Bank of America Stadium where the Panthers play.
The Panthers have never drafted a Clemson football player, and that trend continued Thursday night.
Despite the absolutely perfect fit that Simmons would’ve been and how he could’ve taken that Panthers defense and brought it back to life, Carolina elected to pass on him.
There was a good contingency of the fanbase that loved the idea of seeing Simmons play in Charlotte. Tiger fans would’ve had the opportunity to play close to home and could’ve helped bring that franchise back to prominence.
But it just wasn’t meant to be, apparently.
This isn’t to say that Brown is a bad pick, but it is to say that Simmons is a better pick. The Panthers had an opportunity to really take their defense to the next level and they’re going to regret not taking Simmons when they had the opportunity.
The pick following the Panthers, though, is where we saw Isaiah Simmons finally land.
Simmons was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the No. 8 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and that will be an absolutely great fit as the Clemson football player looks to compete and join a winning franchise in the future.
