Clemson Football: 5 things a spring season would drastically change
What if we did have a spring season? Here are the changes that Clemson football fans would have to expect to see if that was made a reality.
The Clemson football team enters the 2020 season as the favorites to win the National Championship.
The Tigers return plenty of talent and are looking to avenge a loss to LSU back in January in the previous National Championship game. Before that loss, the Clemson football program had won 29-straight games.
But what if Tiger fan have to wait a little longer to get that losing taste out of their mouths?
ESPN College GameDay Host Chris Fowler said there is growing momentum that we could see the season played this following spring, rather than in the fall.
What if that were to happen? Here are five things that would have to drastically change to accommodate a change of that magnitude.
5. Preparation for 2021 season, including recruiting
Let’s start with what may be the most obvious: Preparation for the 2021 season would have to change.
You can’t have a spring practice season if you’re playing your regular season. Also, Fowler is saying the idea is to have the games played between February and June. That would only give the players a couple of months to recover before picking back up and playing again- unless they’re going to modify the start of the 2021 season, as well.
Also, how would 2021 recruits be viewed? If they’re an early enrollee, would they be able to play in the spring season and that count as their freshman campaign? Would they just be given an extra year of eligibility? Would they just have to sit out altogether despite being on the team?
Speaking of recruiting, the 2022 recruiting cycle would be thrown off big time. There’s no way coaches could host summer camps- at least not until July- and you’d see major recruiting events- like Junior Days- have to be put on hold.
That’s a ton of changes, but there’s more.
