Clemson Football: 5-star DB Tony Grimes has Tigers in top group

The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class could be getting even better. 5-star DB Tony Grimes has the Tigers in his top group.

The Clemson football program has been built to last and one of the major reasons is because of the Tigers’ exceptional recruiting job.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class finished among the top-three in the nation in every major recruiting service and the Tigers aren’t planning to fall off in 2021, either. Currently, Clemson is ranked No. 2 in the nation in the 2021 cycle just behind Ohio State. The Tigers have the highest average star-rating of any team in the country.

The Clemson football program received even more good news when 5-star DB Tony Grimes announced his top group of schools.

Grimes, a Virginia Beach product, announced a top-8 group that included Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Maryland and LSU.

Grimes previously said that he is planning to announce his decision in December. It should be noted that it could change depending on the viability of recruiting visits later this fall and how quickly he can make a decision based off of those visits.

Analysis:

When looking at Tony Grimes, he’s exactly the type of cornerback you want to see. He is efficient in press-man coverage and does an excellent job covering his receiver while being able to turn his hips to identify a ball in the air.

It has been hard to gauge Grimes’ true interest because he has taken his recruitment process slowly. He has kept his options open and clearly wants to enjoy the recruiting process before committing or making a decision.

Many recruiting analysts consider Georgia to be the favorite, but I would say that the Bulldogs are going to be hard-pressed by Clemson, Ohio State, Penn State and LSU over the course of the next few months when recruiting picks up again.
