2018 Clemson football team needs no validation
How quick we are to dismiss the greatness of a team once another comes along. That’s exactly what has happened with 2018 Clemson football.
The 2018 Clemson football team is one of the greatest to ever play and we shouldn’t forget that.
Yahoo Sports ran a bracket voted on by fans that detailed the greatest College Football teams of all-time. The championship round? 1995 Nebraska vs. 2019 LSU.
In the 32-team bracket, the 2018 Clemson football team began its run against the 1972 USC team. The Tigers advanced to the second-round against the 2004 USC team and lost. The 2004 USC team would go on to lose to 1995 Nebraska in the final four.
On the other side of the bracket, 2001 Miami was defeated by 2019 LSU in the final four. 2019 LSU would go on to win the vote by an ever-so-slight percentage.
How we have forgotten about greatness.
What 2019 LSU did was absolutely amazing. The Tigers beat several top-tier teams- including Clemson, Oklahoma and Alabama- on their way to a perfect season. There’s no doubt that this team was among the top of all-time greats.
But the amount of disrespect for the 2018 Clemson football team is uncanny.
The Tigers could match-up with any of the teams in this field with ease. People like to forget that the 2018 Clemson football team absolutely drubbed Alabama 44-16 in the National Championship game. Oh, how perspectives change.
You see, had it been Alabama who had won the game that- and the Crimson Tide had finished 15-0- that 2018 Alabama team would be considered perfect competition for 2019 LSU, 1995 Nebraska, 2001 Miami and there’s no way they would’ve lost to 2004 USC.
College Football fans are going to be fans, but the bias and apparent loss-of-memory when it comes to Clemson is clear. That Tiger team had no holes. They had no weaknesses. They had a historically great defensive line with talent all over the field and plenty of weapons offensively. No one could stop them once they got going.
Despite all of this, the truth remains: That 2018 Clemson Tigers needs no validation. We all know how good they were and there’s no changing the fact that they were on a completely different planet than any other team in the country that season.
