The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class is one of the best in the nation and the Tigers could be adding another piece relatively soon.

The 2021 Clemson football recruiting class is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.

The Tigers have the highest average rating (95.59) with 10 commitments, which is just ahead Ohio State (95.34 average) with 15 commitments. Clemson football is also ranked ahead of Florida (No. 3), UNC (No. 4) and Miami (No. 5).

While the Clemson football program already has plenty of talent– especially along the defensive line- the Tigers are currently considered the leaders to gain a commitment from 5-star DT Payton Page.

Page, who is ranked as the No. 4 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 2 overall player in the state of North Carolina, is being recruiting by Todd Bates (primary) and Brent Venables (secondary).

In the latest news, the Clemson football program received another crystal ball prediction for Page. 247 Sports’ Insider Michael Clark put his crystal ball prediction in for Page on Thursday. He’s the fourth recruiting insider to prediction Page to the Tigers, joining Cory Fravel, Steve Wiltfong and Anna Hickey.

While the NCAA has extended the recruiting dead period for the current time, it should be noted that Page last visited Clemson for the Tigers’ Elite Junior Day in January and was expected to be back for the All-In Cookout later this summer.

UNC, who has the No. 4-ranked class in the nation, is considered the major competition for Page.

The 6-foot-4, 360-pound defensive tackle may be the strongest pure interior defensive lineman since Dexter Lawrence. He is the type of DT who can absolutely make an impact right away with his explosiveness and power.

The prospect of adding a player of Page’s caliber to a defensive line that already includes Korey Foreman (5-star DE in 2021), Bryan Bresee, Myles Murphy, Demonte Capehart and others should absolutely make Tiger fans excited about the future of this Clemson defense.
