8. Jess Neely

Here’s a name that I would be willing to bet no one reading this post had the opportunity to watch coach the Tigers.

Jess Neely was the Head Coach of the Clemson Tigers from 1931-1939. During his time, he accumulated an overall record of 43-35-7 and was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Though that record and his accolades don’t necessarily show the story of an elite coach, Neely provided stability during a time where Clemson University was having a tough time keeping a coach for very long. His tenure of nine seasons was the longest in school history at the time and would remain that way until Frank Howard came along in 1940.
