Clemson football DB Sheridan Jones is ready to step into his new role and play a significant part in the Tigers’ secondary during the 2020 season.
The 2020 Clemson football team will have to replace three starters from last year’s secondary, including Tanner Muse, A.J. Terrell and K’Von Wallace.
As the Tigers looking for answers in the secondary, it gives young talented players an opportunity to shine.
One of those guys is CB Sheridan Jones.
Jones was a standout performer in the 2019 Clemson football spring game, but didn’t quite see the field as much as many Tiger fans expected heading into the season as a freshman.
With Terrell off to the NFL, Jones is now entrenched in a battle with Mario Goodrich and fellow sophomore Andrew Booth Jr. for a shot at becoming the starter.
No matter where he falls on the depth chart, though, one thing is for sure: Jones will be ready to step into his new role.
We’re going to see a good mix of Jones, Goodrich, Booth Jr. and Derion Kendrick over the course of this season at cornerback. That rotation will provide needed depth and allow the Tigers flexibility in coverage options. Then, we’ll see the rotation become more set in stone as the season progresses.
Jones showed during flashes of his freshman campaign that he has a certain level of physicality and elite coverage potential to be a really solid cornerback for the Tigers. The only question now is if he will take that next step and become the player that the Clemson football coaching staff believed he could be when they recruited him. There’s no reason to believe he won’t.
