Clemson Football: The 10 greatest ‘what-ifs’ in Tiger History
4. Hunter Renfrow dropped the winning TD
Now this is a ‘what-if’ that basically could never happen. Hunter Renfrow simply doesn’t drop passes.
That being said, what if the moment was just a little too big in the 2017 National Championship game? What if Deshaun Watson’s pass came out a little earlier than he wanted it to and it was out-of-reach or a tough play for Renfrow?
If the game-winning touchdown pass doesn’t happen, there’s still likely time for Clemson to kick a field goal and send the game into overtime, but that’s not for certain. What if the officials had called ‘the pick’ and forced the clock to run off?
There’s a lot of ‘what-if’ that could be considered in that sequence, but everything worked out perfectly for the Tigers and we saw Clemson come away with its first National Championship in more than 30 years.
