Clemson football: Coach Swinney officially puts college football on notice

Clemson football gathered for practice one of 15 that they will have during the spring practice period which will culminate in the spring scrimmage Saturday, April 4th.

There is a lot of buzz around Clemson football heading into the 2020 season. For the first time that I can remember, Coach Swinney told media following the Tiger’s initial spring practice that this team looks every bit of the part.

Coach Swinney has always been coy in regards to the talent level and his hope that they could eventually be good enough by seasons end to have a chance. Even he knows there is no denying the talent that currently resides in Clemson, South Carolina.

The change in rhetoric signifies a change of the guard in college football. While programs like UGA, Oklahoma, Alabama, and LSU hope to put it all together in 2020 and make a run, Clemson knows what they have and they no longer need to simply wish they could.

Sure, internally coach Swinney has always gotten his guys to believe that they are champions and that believing in themselves is all they need. While that is absolutely still true, coach Swinney is willing to tell everyone that the college football title comes through Clemson football and if you are going to take it from them, you are going to have a 60 minute battle on your hands.

Will Clemson win every title over the next 10 years? Absolutely not and no one should think that. However, Clemson will have an opportunity to play for many of them and will win their fair share of them like Alabama has done over the last decade themselves.

There is a lot to be excited about over the next 180 days until college football gears up again. Unlike most schools, Clemson does the spring scrimmage right and we will get to see exactly what has coach Swinney so excited about a team he believes looks the part.
