Clemson Football: Scholarship Breakdown for 2021 recruiting cycle
How will the Clemson football program balance scholarship offers in 2021? Here’s a look at the positional breakdown for the cycle.
The Clemson football program currently has the No. 2-rated class in the country, according to 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.
The Tigers gained commitments from several 4-star and 5-star prospects following their Elite Junior Day weekend back in January and are in great shape to bring in yet another star-studded class.
What will the scholarship numbers look like for the 2021 cycle? Here’s a look at the position-by-position scholarship breakdown for the class, as far as expectations are concerned.
- Quarterback (1)
- Running Back (1-2)
- Wide Receiver (3-4)
- Tight End (1)
- Offensive Line (3-4)
- Defensive End (2)
- Defensive Tackle (1)
- Linebacker (2-3)
- Cornerback (1-2)
- Safety (1)
Analysis:
The class, in its totality, will likely be somewhere around the 18-21 range, most likely staying right around that 20 threshold.
The Tigers are likely done recruiting tight end after picking up a commitment from 4-star Jake Briningstool and they are also likely done at defensive end with two commitments (5-star Korey Foreman, 4-star Cade Denhoff), unless some unforeseen attrition happens with the current roster.
Clemson is seemingly pleased with its running back commitment Phil Mafah, but the Tigers will keep the door open for talented play-maker Will Shipley at the position.
The Tigers already have two commitments on the offensive line and are looking to add an elite offensive tackle to the group. That number could become four total, but the hard amount is slated to be three.
Defensively, Clemson is taking its time and being selective with offers. The Tigers have their eyes on a few defensive backs and those recruiting battles will likely heat up over the course of the summer, but the coaching staff is being patient and evaluation all of its options currently.
We’ll talk about some of the high-priority players at each position later, so make sure you check back here on Rubbing the Rock for more updates and analysis heading into the spring.
