The Clemson football faithful are excited to get TE Braden Galloway back full-time next season, but Tiger fans should forget about Jaelyn Lay.

The Clemson football program entered 2019 without much depth or experience at the tight end position.

The Tigers were losing a veteran starter in Milan Richard, as well as a valued blocker in Garrett Williams. In addition to losing those two veterans, Clemson learned that it would be without promising underclassman Braden Galloway, who would miss the season serving a suspension.

That only left RS Jr. J.C. Chalk and a plethora of true-freshmen in Jaelyn Lay and Davis Allen.

As we head into the 2020 Clemson football season, the tight end position has grown from being one of the biggest question marks on the offense to being an area of true depth.

Chalk, Lay, Allen and Galloway will all return at the position. Talk about an area of experience and depth.

While Clemson football fans are excited to get Galloway back as a full-time starter- and they should be- they shouldn’t forget about Jaelyn Lay. Lay didn’t earn much playing time during his freshman season, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t develop.

He had some trouble catching the ball and adjusting to the next level, but the one area that he was solid was in blocking. Lay has the athletic ability to be a force in the passing game and another year in the system will allow him to develop his hands and become a complete tight end.

Next. Clemson seniors who won't be drafted. dark

Don’t be surprised when you see Lay on the field next season for substantial parts of the game and don’t forget about him as we head into spring practice. This kid has the talent and drive to develop into yet another elite tight end for the Clemson football program and he’ll make a significant jump from his freshman to sophomore year.
