The 2020 Clemson football schedule was released this past week and there’s been plenty of chatter in terms of the Tigers’ opponents.

The 2020 Clemson football schedule was released Wednesday morning and the Tigers will open up the season on the road in Atlanta with a game against Georgia Tech.

Though many want to talk about the relative ‘weakness’ of the Clemson football schedule, there’s actually no reason to believe that the ACC won’t take a step forward this year after an atrocious 2019 season.

Here’s a look at a few games that could spawn ranked opponents.

  • @ Florida State
  • vs. NC State
  • @ Notre Dame
  • vs. South Carolina

Florida State has new life after firing Willie Taggart and that could lead to the Seminoles earning a top-25 ranking if they come out and win a few games early, especially that West Virginia game to open the season in Atlanta.

NC State is an extremely underrated team coming into 2020. The Wolfpack were forced to play a ton of freshmen and underclassmen last season as a result of injury and now they’ll return those guys with a year of experience under their belt.

The road game at Notre Dame has promise to be a ranked match-up, especially considering the Fighting Irish always start out in the top-10 to begin the season anyway. Lastly, South Carolina could sneak into the top-25 with a few wins in the SEC.

After all, we know that rankings always inflate SEC and Big Ten teams anyway, giving the benefit of the doubt to the teams in that conference.

Next. Clemson is the 2020 CFB favorite and it's not even close. dark

The truth is this: It’s not Clemson’s job to make the ACC better. The ACC is going to take a step forward with a couple of ranked teams this season outside of the Tigers, but this season will still feature 12 games in which Clemson will be heavily favored in every match-up. The Tigers need to just show up ready to go and they’ll take care of business, whether the opponent has a number in front of their name or not.
