4-star DB Malcolm Greene made his de-commitment to LSU official on early National Signing Day, signing an NLI with Clemson football.

The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class picked up its 23rd commitment Wednesday morning when 4-star DB Malcolm Greene de-committed from LSU and committed to Dabo Swinney’s program.

The move was expected as every recruiting analyst on 247 Sports changed their crystal ball prediction in favor of Clemson football this week.

Greene picked up a Clemson offer fairly early on back in August of 2018, but the Tigers showed an increased amount of interest in the 4-star prospect over the last couple of weeks, after he had committed to LSU.

Greene elected to take an official visit to Clemson this past weekend and things were basically set from that point on.

He sent in his National Letter of Intent Wednesday morning and joined a star-studded class that should finish as the highest-ranked class in Clemson football history.

Greene was recruited primarily by DBs Coach Mike Reed and it’s clear the Tigers liked his physicality and versatility at the safety position. Greene could potentially work himself into a nickel role, but he’s a little smaller (5-foot-10, 180 pounds) than what the Tigers have customarily used at that position.

Most likely, he projects as a safety that will have a year or two to develop and fill the depth chart. The Tigers will want to get him into the weight room and add on to that good frame.

That being said, Greene could still find himself on the field fairly early on in his career. One position that Clemson has not recruited well in years past- in terms of raw talent, anyway- is safety. Having his athleticism on the back-end of the defense will be an asset to the Tigers, who haven’t necessarily had elite-level speed and bursts from that spot in the past.
