Jeff Scott is leaving the Clemson football program to become the Head Coach at USF, but not before the Tigers make a run in the CFB Playoff.

Clemson football co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott was announced as the new Head Coach for the University of South Florida last week, but he’ll be pulling double-duty for the course of the next few weeks.

Scott traveled down to Tampa Bay last week to work as the Head Coach for the USF football program, but returned to Clemson this week where he’ll serve as the Co-Offensive Coordinator for the Tigers’ match-up against Ohio State in the CFB Playoff.

Interestingly enough, Ohio State Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley was named the Head Coach of the Boston College Eagles and will be pulling double-duty as the Eagles’ coach and the coordinator for the Buckeyes during the game, as well.

While some Clemson football fans may worry that Scott pulling double-duty may be a distraction or a hindrance to the program, we believe it could be the exact opposite.

Not Your Typical Assistant Coach…

In most cases, an assistant who has already taken a job at another program would likely be considered a distraction, but Jeff Scott is not your typical coach.

Scott graduated for Clemson. He has coached alongside Dabo Swinney for more than a decade now. If you believe for one second that this man- who has done nothing but been an intricate part in the building process of the Clemson football program- is going to be distracted as the Tigers begin their run in the CFB Playoff, you clearly haven’t been paying attention.

Scott’s not leaving Clemson on bad terms. He loves his players, co-workers and the fans. He has grown up a Tiger and he’s leaving a Tiger and you can guarantee that Scott is wanting to leave a National Champion, as well.

He’s going to give his absolute best in his final days to the Clemson football program. The last thing he wants to do is leave on a sour note. Instead, he’ll be investing tons of time into coming up with the best game plan possible to attack that Ohio State defense and then hopefully the LSU or Oklahoma defense two weeks later.

Having Scott with the team for the next few weeks will also be an asset as the Tigers attempt to have a seamless transition. Scott will be able to train Brandon Streeter (new co-offensive coordinator) and Tyler Grisham (new WRs coach) extensively and exclusively so they are able to take over the positions with confidence and completely understanding what to expect moving forward.

Next. 5-star LB Trenton Simpson a late gem for Clemson. dark

Scott coming back for the remainder of the season isn’t a distraction for the Clemson football program, it’s an asset for the Tigers as they prepare to move forward.
