Clemson Football: Tigers appear out on 5-stars Justin Flowe, Jordan Burch
Unless something changes over the next couple of days, it seems that Clemson football won’t be adding another 5-star to its 2020 recruiting class.
The 2020 Clemson football recruiting class is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to the 247 Sports’ Composite Team Rankings.
Though Clemson has 22 commitments in the class, Tigers had two major targets remaining in the 2020 cycle. 5-star LB Justin Flowe and 5-star DE Jordan Burch were both at one time considered leans towards Clemson football, but it doesn’t seem that the Tigers will be adding either prospect to their commitment board in this already-impressive class.
Over the past couple of weeks, Clemson has extended late offers to three prominent prospects- 5-star LB Trenton Simpson, 3-star OG Trent Howard and 4-star DB Kendal Dennis. The Tigers have picked up commitments from two of those three prospects (Simpson and Howard) and are still awaiting word on Dennis, who’ll announce his decision in December.
Though Clemson is always smart about its scholarship offers, it seems the Tigers aren’t confident that they’ll sign Flowe or Burch and many are indicating that Clemson has stopped recruiting Flowe altogether.
Since the Tigers received a commitment from Simpson, the 247 Sports’ crystal ball has gone from strongly in favor of Clemson to an Oregon lean. Several insiders say Clemson felt it was waiting too long on a decision from Flowe, who wasn’t giving them confidence he was going to be a Tiger.
In addition to Flowe likely choosing Oregon over Clemson, it seems that 5-star DE Jordan Burch isn’t going to be heading to Dabo Swinney’s program, either.
Burch took an official visit to Georgia this weekend and the Bulldogs picked up a crystal ball prediction shortly after. Cory Fravel, a Clemson 247 insider, put the crystal ball prediction in and the overarching thought is that he could be choosing between LSU, Georgia and South Carolina this week when he announces a commitment.
Dabo Swinney was at Burch’s basketball game last week, but nothing came of it as Burch never took a visit of any kind to Clemson during the season. The last time the Tigers had Burch on campus was earlier this summer for the All-In Cookout.
Burch has kept his recruitment close to the vest and it shouldn’t be believed for one second that any insider has anymore information than another, but it doesn’t seem as if he’ll be joining Clemson when it’s all said and done.
The Tigers have done an excellent job stockpiling talent and picking up commitments from some of the top recruits across the country. The coaching staff would obviously love to add either of these prospects to the class, but it’s clear they also feel confident in the class they already have that is headlined by the most 5-star commitments in the country.
