Former Clemson football coach Chad Morris has reportedly signed a deal to become the offensive coordinator for the Auburn Tigers.

The Clemson football coaching tree has extended quite a bit during this week.

Earlier this week, we saw Clemson football Co-Offensive Coordinator Jeff Scott sign a deal to become the next Head Coach at the University of South Florida. Scott started off in 2008 as a Wide Receivers coach under Dabo Swinney.

Scott worked his way up the ranks, becoming the Recruiting Coordinator/WR Coach, before ultimately taking over as a Co-Offensive Coordinator with Tony Elliott for Clemson football in 2014.

Scott was given the opportunity by Swinney after former Offensive Coordinator Chad Morris elected to become the Head Coach at Southern Methodist University.

Over those few years, Morris had a solid run at SMU and then became the Head Coach at Arkansas. Unfortunately for him, things didn’t work out with the Razorbacks as he held just a 4-18 overall record and was subsequently fired.

Though it’s certainly expected that Morris will be looking for another Head Coaching position in the near future, it was announced Tuesday that he had accepted the Offensive Coordinator and QBs coach position at Auburn.

Interestingly enough, Morris will join former Clemson football Defensive Coordinator Kevin Steele- who was fired in 2011 following a 70-33 blowout by West Virginia in the Orange Bowl.

Steele and Morris worked together for just one season at Clemson- in 2011- and helped lead the Tigers, under Dabo Swinney’s supervision, to their first ACC Championship in two decades.

Though Steele still has difficulties in some areas, it does seem that he has improved from where he was when he was with the Tigers. Morris is one of the top offensive minds in the country and could potentially help vault that Auburn offense to the next level in the SEC, if Gus Malzahn will allow him to coach.

The Auburn coaching staff will have its limitations with Malzahn as the head, but there’s certainly some talent on that staff that could help the Tigers become a contender for the SEC West.

The problem for Malzahn, though, will be keeping both of his coordinators. Morris is going to likely jump after one season back to a Head Coaching role at whichever school offers him and Steele may not be far behind if he has another couple of solid seasons as a Defensive Coordinator with the Tigers.
