Clemson Football Analysis: Tigers to play Ohio State in Fiesta Bowl
The Clemson football team was announced as the No. 3 seed in the CFB Playoff. As a result, the Tigers will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
The Clemson football team finished 13-0 with a dominant 62-17 win over the Virginia Cavaliers in the ACC Championship.
The CFB Playoff committee announced its field of four Sunday afternoon and there was a bit of a switch-up near the top.
The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game, but dropped behind LSU for that No. 1 spot because of the Tigers’ absolutely dominating win over the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game.
As a result, the field of four is as follows:
- LSU
- Ohio State
- Clemson
- Oklahoma
Analysis:
The Tigers and Buckeyes will match-up in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on Saturday, Dec. 28 while LSU and Oklahoma will play in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in Atlanta, Georgia.
Most Clemson football fans wanted to play LSU in the first-round just because of the fact that the National Championship game is in New Orleans. Instead, the Tigers will make a long trip to Arizona to take on Ohio State. Of course, we all know what happened the last time the Tigers and Buckeyes played in Arizona.
Ohio State has a dynamic offense, led by QB Justin Fields and RB J.K. Dobbins. They have one of the nation’s best defenses, as well, with superstar DE Chase Young anchoring that defensive line.
That being said, Clemson is playing the best football in the nation at this point.
The Tigers are seeing the most offensive success of the season and the defense is still playing at a high level. Giving Brent Venables three weeks to prepare for that Ohio State offense should bode well for Clemson football.
It should also be noted that Clemson has the most experienced coaching staff in the country. There’s a reason that both Ohio State and LSU wanted to avoid playing the Tigers in the first-round, but it’ll be the Buckeyes that have to deal with them first.
