The Clemson football team will take on in-state rival South Carolina next Saturday, but the Gamecocks could be without their top wide receiver.

The Clemson football team has just one game in the way of back-to-back perfect regular seasons, and they’ll be taking on in-state rival South Carolina to determine that fate.

The Gamecocks come into the matchup with a 4-7 record and, no matter the outcome, they’ll miss a bowl game as a result.

While South Carolina may not have any type of postseason to look forward to, the Gamecocks would love nothing more than to play spoiler to Clemson football and the Tigers’ path to a fifth-straight CFB Playoff appearance.

From several reports, it seems that the Gamecocks will have to do it without their top wide receiver. Will Muschamp told the media that WR Bryan Edwards had a knee scope for an injury he suffered two weeks ago against Appalachian State. Edwards traveled with the team to Texas A&M last week, but was unavailable to play.

Muschamp said that Edwards hasn’t been ruled out, but would list the talented wide receiver’s status as ‘doubtful’ heading into the final game of his collegiate career. According to Saturday Down South, Edwards is just one touchdown catch away from being the school’s all-time leader in touchdown receptions.

The Gamecocks were without several other contributors last week against the Aggies, but Muschamp said that he expects the vast majority of other players to be back. That list includes for Clemson football RB Tavien Feaster, as well as WR OrTre Smith, RB Mon Denson and RB A.J. Turner.

The open date should give South Carolina an opportunity to heal up and come out with fresher legs than in the last few weeks. The truth is, they’ll absolutely need it. Clemson football is coming into this one with a sharp focus and that spells trouble for any opponent.
