4. The stats are there

In addition to being on a winning team, an MVP candidate must have the stats on paper to be considered a true favorite for the award.

Watson is currently completing 70.2 percent of his passes and has thrown for 2,432 yards and 18 touchdowns to five interceptions. That’s a QB rating of 107.1.

In addition to what he has done through the air, Watson also has 279 yards rushing and five touchdowns.

He’ll likely have to have a couple of big-time games, in terms of stats, to compete with the likes of Lamar Jackson and Russell Wilson who are putting up monster numbers, but there’s no reason to believe that he won’t continue to have success and increase those numbers over the next few weeks.
