5. The Texans are AFC contenders

To be an MVP candidate in most sports- more times than not- your team has to be among the leaders in the league. This is especially true in the NFL.

The Texans (6-3) current sit atop the AFC South standings with a half-game lead over the Indianapolis Colts (5-3). Watson has currently led the Texans on a two-game winning streak and they are in position to contend not just for a playoff spot, but for a potential first-round bye.

At this point, the only teams ahead of the Texans in the AFC standings are the Ravens (6-2) and the Patriots (8-1).

Watson will be looking to lead his team to one of those coveted bye spots over the course of the second half of the season, competing with the Chiefs, Ravens and Colts for that second spot behind the Patriots.
